OLD AGE PENSION

In February 2010, the Old Age Basic Pension Plan will replace the current Old Age Allowance scheme. All Maldivians 65 years and older will receive up to MRF 2,000 per month as a lifetime pension benefit regardless of working history.

Even if you are currently receiving an Old Age Allowance, you will need to fill out an application form to receive monies under the Old Age Basic Pension plan. The early enrolment deadline for submissions is January 20, 2010. This will ensure there is no interruption of monthly payments for existing old age allowance recipients.

How will the Basic Pension Plan work?

Your monthly pension benefit provided by the Government of the Maldives will be reduced by 50 percent of the value of any other pension benefit you might receive. These additional benefits could include existing 20 and 40 year public pensions, private sector pension, and poverty and blindness allowances.

Eligibility

All Maldivians who are 65 years old and older and living in the Maldives are eligible.

To apply, you will need a personal or joint bank account and be required to fill in an application form.

You must apply even if you are already receiving Old Age Allowance. Once your application is processed, your pension will be deposited directly in your bank account every month.
